The Local Publishers Forum [LPF] was founded in the late 1980s to
serve the needs of editorial and production people in New Zealand
publishing. Its aims are to:
- improve skills in New Zealand publishing;
- improve standards in New Zealand publishing;
- provide a forum for discussion of key issues; and
- improve communication within the industry.
The Forum is run by a working committee plus a convenor, all elected
periodically by the people attending the Local Publishers Forum.
The working committee meets several times a year to organise
professional development sessions. These workshops, seminars and forums
are held at regular intervals. Fees for all sessions are kept to a
minimum to cover the cost of speakers.
Any person involved in producing books in New Zealand is welcome to
attend LPF sessions -- publishers, editors, assistant editors,
production managers, production assistants, designers, typesetters,
proofreaders, indexers and others. Freelancers, self-employed people
and newcomers to the publishing industry are welcome as well as staff
of larger companies.
